Griefcraft v1.9 - MC 1.0.0 Client

I used to play on a now-defunct “gimmick” based anarchy server called “Wayback Anarchy.” The gimmick of the server was that it would update 1 version of Minecraft a month at a time, starting with Minecraft 1.0.0, then 1.1, etc. It used ancient CraftBukkit versions on the server-side, nocheat for anticheat (not even nocheatplus), and generally was held together with sticks and gum. Playing the server really brought you back in time, back when things were simple, and everything took far more effort than it should have.

Because the server was on such old versions of Minecraft, ViaForge, ViaFabric, MultiConnect, and other protocol translation mods couldn’t interact with the server. We were pretty much forced to go out onto the internet and unearth any working download links for old clients, and try to use them. In the very beginning, the two clients that were used the most (aside from NoCheatBreaker, a private client made for Betachy) were GriefCraft and Epsilon.

GriefCraft was a fairly capable client that most players were happy with using. It had many more modules and utilities than other clients which often were lacking in capability, and its usage was fairly straightforward. Pretty much everything in the client was shown to you as soon as you loaded into the world.

The download on MPGH that I originally got this client from is rather helpful and descriptive as well, including a full description and list of modules + commands.

Personally, I wasn’t too big of a GriefCraft user on Wayback Anarchy, however GriefCraft certainly was a strong client for the time. It had everything you needed to cheat on just about any server, and unusually for its time - called KillAura “KillAura” (usually it was called ForceField). For anarchy, it gets the job done. It isn’t nearly as complete as a client normally would be today, but it worked. In my opinion, Mob Aura, Kill Aura, and Xray are the most useful parts of the client, making tough situations easier, and letting you find secret stashes or ores easier. I just happened to prefer Epsilon over GriefCraft, rather than any real issues with GriefCraft.
